Reading IFR World Robotics: the 2025 numbers for operators

What the headline shares actually mean for a business adding the line.

IFR World Robotics 2025 gives the market a headline number every year. Operators need the second read underneath it.

The headline vs the operator read

The report’s category shares describe global installed stock and shipments; they say less about where in Europe, the UK, the Gulf and MENA a given category is actually landing, or which application within it is driving the volume.

An operator adding a category should read the report for direction and rate of change, not for a number to repeat in a pitch deck — the shares move year to year, and the report itself flags where data quality is thinner.

“The report tells you the market moved. It does not tell you whether your market moved with it.”

Volume concentrates in a handful of applications, not evenly across the category.

Where the volume actually is

Per the 2025 report, logistics and cleaning applications carry a large share of installed service-robot stock, with hospitality and inspection categories growing off a smaller base — the mix shifts by region as much as by year.

Reading volume by application, not by category label, is what tells an operator whether a given machine is landing in a proven use case or an early one.

WHAT TO TAKE AWAY

  • Read IFR’s shares for direction and rate of change, not as a number to repeat.

  • Volume concentrates by application, not evenly across a category.

  • A market report measures installed stock, not service quality or pilot survival.

  • A headline share tells you a market’s direction, never whether your own line will pay for itself.

The report is honest about what it measures, and silent about what it does not.

What the numbers don’t say

It counts installed stock and shipments; it does not measure uptime, service quality, or which deployments were pilots that never scaled. Two markets can show the same installed count and differ completely on those points.

Reading IFR alongside operator interviews and deployment tracking — not instead of them — is what turns a market report into an operating decision.

Sourced or silent. Every figure on this page carries an attributed, dated source. Where we could not source a number, we left it out rather than estimate it.
